Version 2! These are entirely cast in urethane resin. They do not warp when left alone in the back seat of your hot car in the summer and the “asphalt” is now also resin so it is no longer pliable. You won’t leave any fingerprints. Installation is the same.
Developed from an original Willard SW-2-116 battery, a 1944 Willard catalog, a 1943 Association of American Battery Manufacturers service manual, original and archival photographs of installed batteries, support from a Jeep owner & CAD draftsman as well as design help and advice from several Jeep owners and restorers we present the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to realistically transform a modern 6 volt battery into a classic “Tar Top”.
The Willard Battery Top is designed as a drop on cover for the Group 2 Commercial batteries made by East Penn. These are sold under Napa, Deka, Duracell and several other brands. These Tops do not fit Exide nor Interstate batteries. This cover requires no modifications to the battery and can be installed in minutes. The caps include 3M VHB tape dots that you simply “peel and stick” to apply to the functional caps on your battery. In the event you need to replace your battery, even while on the road you can simply switch the caps, move the cover over and return the old battery for your core fee without losing the Willard Battery Top.
These are entirely cast in urethane resin. The “Lead” cell connectors are cold cast resin and metal powder, not real lead. Each Willard Battery Top includes the top plate, 3 decorative vent caps and neoprene rubber self adhesive letters the you can apply to the front of your battery in place off the commercial sticker.
In the photos are the Battery Top installed in a customer’s MB and a 46 Ford*. The orange paint on the lettering is not currently an option but will be soon. At this time all Battery Tops will ship only in black. The installed photos and the top by itself on the table show the version 1. But all tops now are the version 2 entirely of Urethane.
Some people have asked where these are made. The answer is that we make them right in Ranson, West Virginia, USA. They are Made in the USA of Made in the USA components and 100% of the raw materials up the supply chain are also Made in the USA.
